We are a family of 5 currently living in the Pacific Northwest. We have three daughters (our first daughter was my "surprise" at 19, Mike adopted her in 2009) and family spread out all around the world (my parents are in Egypt, his in California). I blog to keep my family up to date on our happenings and to document our kids lives... I'm hoping that one day they will appreciate this online journal of their childhood :)

I am also a photographer in Seattle-Tacoma, Washington. You can find me over at kipperphotography.com. Thanks for stopping by!

That time I went to NYC

Ya know, back in 2012. October to be exact. Sigh. I dont know why I leave the photos of the BEST weekends to sit on my hard drive and wither away into oblivion! It's like I don't want to look at all the fun I had.

Well, that's changin. Embrace the fun, that's what life is all about.

So anyway, I somehow managed to convince Mike that I needed to fly out to New York and visit one of my best friends of all time. He agreed and sent me on my way for three fun filled child-free days across the country with Chelsea.

I met Chelsea back in 7th grade or so. We were both huge nerds. Well she was always a tad bit cooler and feistier than me, hence the whole successful graphic design businesswoman living in NYC alone thing. I wish I had some pictures on hand from high school. I'll have to search for some online. Envision us with super sparkley prom dresses, Abercrombie clothes, shoving our faces full of Mexican food, laughing a lot, oh and life guarding together. Good times. (Not too far off from the pictures below, minus the Abercrombie.)

I visited Chels in NYC back in 2010. You can search for those posts with the tag "NYC". Good memories. I wish NYC wasn't so freakin far away, it's like a 6 hour non stop flight or something crazy like that. By the time I got to her apartment it was almost 11pm and I was starving. My first night there we went out for sushi and then got $17 martinis at some fancy hotel, called Gramercy Park hotel I think? I know we could walk there from her apt, and it was swanky. We laughed a lot and drank and acted completely un-fancy. Then ate some pizza at 2am on the side of the street, because, that's what you do in NYC at 2am. It's a rule.

I can't remember all the tiny details, because it's been 4 months and I already think I'm ready for another NYC trip (hint hint, hehe), but day two was spent walking along the highline, buying random crap from street vendors, including a giant bowl from Africa that I had to lug on the plane back to Seattle (why, Carolyn?! Why?!) and then we ate more food, walked the Brooklyn Bridge, went shopping, went on top of the Rooftop Bar at the Met (completely bypassed all the art, except for the naked art, because like I said before, I am all about the booze... no really the museum was closing, so we had to rush...and there was booze on top of a building. It was glorious. Top 5 New York moments ever, especially because some famous band was playing below in Central Park.)

The next day included a run around Central Park, more food, more roof top bars, cuddles with her dog Randi, lots of much needed talking, more 2am food, this time it was diner food... I got a grilled cheese and french fries (No wonder I gained 4 lbs in 3 days. hehe.)

Oh and we went to a restaurant called Scarpettos and saw Katherine McPhee there! She was pretty, totally normal, scarfed tons of food down. Refreshing to see!!

love you long time Chels. Miss you.

PS: I feel like I look really heavy in these pics, it bums me out because I felt great on this trip (down about 10+ pounds at this point). I have lost 10-12 more pounds since these pics were taken, but still have a ways to go before I think "wow I look great in those photos, take more of me please!" Blah. Hate blows to the self esteem.
